How to exterminate cockroaches yourself?
Today I will give you a brief description of how to get rid of cockroaches. Just follow the six-step rule.
1. Insulate the premises. This does not necessarily have to be the first step, and it is not always possible (for example, in rented apartments, where it is impossible to agree with the owners on additional repairs). If this step is skipped, the destruction of cockroaches in the premises that are infested with cockroaches (meaning if at least one room or, say, an apartment in the same building has cockroaches) should become a periodic ritual (every year, every three or two months, or so, depending on the infestation and the number of cracks between the rooms). Room insulation means sealing all cracks, as well as cracks between pipes, installing small grilles in ventilation openings, etc.
2. Stop using products purchased in non-professional stores. Why?
a) The materials found in non-professional stores are more intended for monitoring parasites than for extermination. There is also a significant chance that insects will develop tolerance to the chosen insecticide (e.g. aerosol preparations are only effective when sprayed directly on the cockroach, sticky traps are only used for collecting cockroaches, but not for extermination).
b) Using various materials or methods in a haphazard manner causes greater damage to nature, animals, and humans than focusing on specialized methods.
c) Failure to eradicate cockroaches for a long time may create a psychological barrier - that it is impossible to do so.
3. Ignore popular advice and friends' experiences. If cockroaches have already appeared in your premises, do not believe that sprinkling bay leaves will drive them out of your house, or that mixing hard-boiled egg yolk with boric acid will have a destructive and long-lasting repellent effect. It is also worth remembering that if a remedy helped Peter, it will not necessarily help John.
4. Destroy cockroaches in your premises and create a protective perimeter.
a) Use long-acting insecticides. Long-acting insecticides remain on the surface for 3 to 6 weeks (by the way, they do not evaporate, which is a concern when exterminating rooms where people or animals are often present). This means that you do not have to find all the cockroach nests and spray them with chemicals (and is this even possible if you are not a specialist who exterminates cockroaches every day), it is enough to spray them where they usually visit and in all other dark places. Using long-acting insecticides creates a protective perimeter that prevents entry and scares away individuals trying to sneak in from neighboring rooms through cracks in walls and floors, between pipes, and through ventilation holes, and leaves a protective film in places not touched by humans, such as behind cabinets or refrigerators (in this case, it is completely harmless), on which the cockroach that gets on it will be affected and after a short period of time will die before it can cause any damage. Today, a long-acting insecticide is recommended for cockroach control: Cipper200, concentrate . Just remember to follow the instructions provided below the product description;
b) Use sticky traps to collect cockroaches . This speeds up the extermination process. The traps are placed at least one day after spraying.
5. Be patient. Often, after spraying, the opposite result is obtained than expected, because all the cockroaches are intoxicated, no longer afraid of light and people and come to the surface. This is a normal part of the extermination and takes about two weeks.
6. Repeat if necessary. If after 3-5 weeks you notice at least one live cockroach, the procedure must be repeated. Also, chemistry does not always affect cockroach eggs, as a result of which a new generation may hatch during this period.
